Quiz of the week

How well do you know the news? Test your knowledge.

Mid-Autumn Festival is in October, but you can already start pre-ordering mooncakes. And durian fiends have a new offering to try this year. For the first time, 7-Eleven is rolling out a series of Durian Snowskin Mooncakes, which customers can order in advance and collect at selected 7-Eleven outlets.

1 of 4 There are three varietals

The pork and lard-free mooncakes boast “premium, silky smooth snowskin” stuffed with pure durian pulp. According to 7-Eleven, the treats contain no preservatives, sugar or cream. The flavours are pretty intriguing — instead of the typical Mao Shan Wang, which other mooncake brands also offer, the chain has three durian cultivars for customers to choose from. They are D24, Red Prawn and, yep, Mao Shan Wang (the Musang King is just too popular to exclude, we guess).

  • 2 of 4 The prices

Now, you can get the mooncakes in five different combinations. If you pre-order ’em before September 6, you can enjoy “introductory prices”. Check out the combos below:

    - Mao Shan Wang Mooncakes (4 pieces, 150g each), $68 (usual price $75)

    - D24 Mooncakes (4 pieces, 150g each), $62 (usual price $68)

    - Red Prawn Mooncakes (4 pieces, 150g each), $62 (usual price $68)

    - 4-Piece Mixed Flavours (2x Mao Shan Wang, 1x D24, 1x Red Prawn), $65 (usual price $72)

    - 2-Piece Mixed Flavours (1x Mao Shan Wang, 1x D24), $35 (usual price $39)

Now, which flavour should you choose? As a quick guide, folks who like bitter to bittersweet durians should go for Mao Shan Wang and D24 (which are known for their bittersweet, creamy flesh). If you prefer sweet flesh, go for the vividly orange Red Prawn.

Pre-order durian mooncakes from now till September 20 at selected 7-Eleven outlets (click here for the list of outlets). Collection from August 28.

3 of 4 There are Sanrio mooncakes too

Other than durian snowskin mooncakes, 7-Eleven is also selling Sanrio-themed baked mooncakes in four flavours: White Lotus, Pandan Lotus, Green Tea White Lotus and Chocolate Lava Cookies. You can choose from two popular Sanrio character sets: My Melody and Hello Kitty (the mouthless cat design is exclusive to 7-Eleven). Both sets come with their own themed cooler bags and matching paper bags. My Melody’s mooncakes are packaged in a cute ‘beach ball’ bag with a chain strap (see above).

  • 4 of 4 Cat got the mooncake

Meanwhile, the Hello Kitty set comes with your choice of two mooncake flavours, plus a travel cooler bag and kitty-themed paper bag.

Pre-order Sanrio mooncakes from August 24 to September 23 at all 7-Eleven outlets. Collection a week from date of order.
