Famed Hong Kong Mod Chinese Fine-Diner Mott 32 Coming To Marina Bay Sands
It serves posh contemporary Chinese cuisine in sexy surrounds.
Hong Kong is home to many stellar restaurants, but contemporary Chinese fine-dining restaurant Mott 32 is on most gourmands’ bucket list. Located in the basement of the grand Standard Chartered Bank Building in the Central district, the restaurant serves much talked about mod Chinese dishes in dim, sexy surrounds.
Named after New York’s first Chinese grocery store on Mott Street, Mott 32 had opened international outposts in other major cities like Seoul, Las Vegas and Vancouver. Come end of this year, it’s opening its Singapore outlet at Marina Bay Sands.
Spanning 7,000 sq ft, the restaurant boasts 149 seats and a private dining room. It takes over the space formerly occupied by Marina Bay Sands’ popular Osteria and Pizzeria Mozza (which was taken over by the short-lived Italian restaurant Nostra Cucina), both of which unexpectedly shuttered in July 2018 following the #metoo scandal plaguing its chef and co-owner, Mario Batali.
According to a PR rep from Marina Bay Sands, Mott 32 is expected to open “in Q4 of this year”, though a specific opening date is still in the works.
Other than its food, Mott 32 is also well-known for its sleek, ultra-glam decor designed by award-winning Hong Kong interior design practice Joyce Wang Studio. Each Mott 32 restaurant is unique and reflects the personality of its locale.
According to Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore outpost “pays tribute to the balmy evenings spent outdoors” with elegant hand-painted lanterns, and Singapore’s “rich foliage and flora” are brought indoors via “illustrations on the chinoiserie backdrop, against a play of black and green terrazzo lining the floors”. In other words, you might wanna leave your singlet and slippers at home for this.
Mott 32’s signature Cantonese, Sichuan and Beijing-style dishes will all be served in Singapore, including their famous Apple Wood Roasted Peking Duck, Barbecue Pluma Iberico Pork Glazed With Yellow Mountain Honey, Crispy Triple Cooked Wagyu Beef Short Ribs and Iberico Pork With Soft Quail Egg And Black Truffle Siu Mai. Mott 32 Hong Kong’s former executive chef Lee Man-Sing will be stationed here for a period of time to oversee the operations.
The Peking Duck roasted with apple wood for 42 days costs approximately HKD730 (around S$128), while the Iberico Pork with Yellow Mountain Honey goes for HKD295 (S$52) and the Black Truffle Siu Mai will set you back HKD65 (S$11.40) for two pieces. So start saving your coins.
Mott 32 Singapore will be at B1-42/43/44, Galleria Level, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. www.marinabaysands.com.
