Genki Sushi Now Has Mini Yusheng For One Pax With Salmon Sashimi
Silent lohei.
Chinese New Year celebrations will be different this year due to Covid-19, like the tradition of lohei. According to guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, masked diners will have to refrain from screaming “huat ah!” as they toss their yusheng.
If you want to play extra safe and not even share food with anyone, just order a yusheng for yourself. Genki Sushi now has a Mini Yusheng for individuals, which is a scaled-down version of the usual large communal platters.
Each Mini Yusheng costs $5.80, and comes with the following:
● Four slices of salmon sashimi arranged in a rose shape
● Radish
● Carrot
● Chuka wakame (seasoned sesame seaweed)
● Crunchy tanuki (crispy tempura bits)
● Citrusy yuzu plum sauce
It’s available only for dine-in, though Genki Sushi has a communal-sized Genki Yusheng (from $38.90) for delivery.
While it’s ostensibly marketed as being a “yusheng for individuals”, the Mini Yusheng can feed about two pax. And if you find lohei no fun without the auspicious phrases, try this app that can do all the “nian nian you yu” hollering for you.
Available till Feb 26 at all Genki Sushi outlets. www.genkisushi.com.sg.
