Quiz of the week

How well do you know the news? Test your knowledge.

So there’ll soon be a travel bubble between Hong Kong and Singapore, with no quarantine period required. Even non-business travellers are welcome (Covid-19 tests still required, of course). But while we anxiously wait for more details to be released over the coming weeks, let’s celebrate first with the makan deals rolled out by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and famous HK food brands in a recently-launched 100 Reasons to Miss Hong Kong campaign.

1 of 8 25% off Jenny Bakery cookies, including new choc flavour

We used to lug home cutesy tins of Jenny Bakery’s super buttery cookies during our HK trips before the brand came to Singapore in 2015. While the prices here are understandably slightly higher due to import fees, now’s the time to enjoy a 25 percent discount if you apply the code “MissyouHK” on their website while ordering some of their famous cookies (expect new designs on the tins too).

2 of 8 Jenny Bakery’s new Chocolate Flower Cookies, $18 for small (usual price $21)

Jenny Bakery’s all-new seasonal special of chocolate-flavoured cookies are only available in small tins and at limited quantities — but we managed to try some. The pretty munchkins give off an oddly pungent smell when we first prised off the lid. Thankfully, they taste chocolatey enough (but could afford to be a little richer) thanks to the use of dark cocoa powder, and boast the same melt-in-your-mouth, buttery, crumbly texture that the brand is famous for. Not bad, but we still prefer Jenny's super shiok original coffee- and butter-flavoured picks.

3 of 8 2 Mix Butter Cookies, $23 for small (before discount)

Jenny’s cookies are imported from their Hong Kong factory. While their 4 Mix option (butter, coffee, shortbread & raisin oat, $23 for small before discount) is their best-seller, we prefer the 2 Mix of coffee (Jenny’s best flavour in our opinion) and butter ones.

Enjoy 25% off Jenny Bakery’s cookies by using the code “MissyouHK” with every purchase on their website, till 15 Nov. https://www.jennybakery.sg/

5 of 8 10% off bill at Joy Luck Teahouse

If you can stomach the long lines at this joint specialising in Egg Tarts ($2.30) from Hong Kong’s famed Hoover Cake Shop (check out how it ranked in our egg tart guide) and Kam Kee HK Milk Tea ($3.50 hot; $3.80 cold), you get to enjoy 10% off your total bill. P.S. The newer Bugis outlet also has Chee Cheong Fun ($3.80).

Available till 15 Nov. https://joyluckteahouse.com/

6 of 8 Free egg rolls at Hang Heung… kinda

Again, be prepared to line up at this iconic egg roll and wife biscuit shop at Ion Orchard. The original store was founded in 1920 in Hong Kong’s Yuen Long neighbourhood. Here, they're giving away a box of Country Egg Rolls (6 pcs) with every $88 spent. Limited to one redemption per customer, for in-store purchases only.

Available till 20 Oct at 15 Nov. http://www.hangheungsg.com/

7 of 8 15% off bill at Kam’s Roast

Although it never quite lived up to its promise of serving the same juicy roast goose from the original one-Michelin-starred Kam’s Roast Goose restaurant in HK (because Singapore doesn’t allow the import of the type of geese the eatery uses), Kam’s Roast in Singapore still serves decent HK-style roast meats like duck and pork. Flash the 100 Reasons to Miss Hong Kong logo prior to ordering and snag 15% off your bill.

Available till 12 Oct at 15 Nov. https://kamsroast.com.sg/

8 of 8 Special bundle meal for two at Mui Kee’s Congee

We always enjoy the tasty Parrot Fish Belly Congee and Beef Brisket Noodles at this posher offshoot of the original porridge hawker stall in Hong Kong's Mong Kok neighbourhood. Here’s the current deal: Get a “Miss You Hong Kong” Special Bundle ($46.22, original price $51.36) comprising two bowls of Parrot Fish Belly Congee, a Drunken Chicken in Shaoxing Wine, a Poached Kai Lan, a plate of Crispy Dough Fritters, and two Grass Jelly with Longan desserts. Enjoy an additional 10% off this special bundle when you dine in or takeaway here.

Available till 12 Oct at 15 Nov. https://www.muikee.com.sg/
