Chilli crab specialist Jumbo Seafood has just launched four to-go bento boxes filled with dim sum morsels. Each set includes both classics like siew mai, along with other more modern specialities incorporating their famous chilli crab. Inexpensive and fairly tasty for a simple lunch if you’re dining solo, or if you’re too lazy to order a la carte. The boxes are only available at Jumbo Seafood’s Ion Orchard outlet for takeout or via delivery. Here’s a look at the four options available.

1 of 5 Dim Sum Box A, $14.90

Instead of char siew sou, you get a chilli crab puff filled with a sweet-sour saucy filling dotted with shredded crabmeat, along with the other classic dim sum dishes like deep-fried prawn dumpling, tasty, umami siew mai, plump har gao, fried carrot cake, steamed pork bun and an egg tart.

2 of 5 Dim Sum Box B, $14.90

Much like the previous option, this bento box also includes siew mai, har gao and fried prawn dumpling. Other snacks include Jumbo’s pan-fried chilli crab bun, a slightly greasy but quite yummy offering with a crisp bottom and tangy chilli crab sauce, the chef’s special crispy BBQ pork bun (think a variation of Tim Ho Wan’s sweetish baked char siew bao) and fried beancurd skin stuffed with prawns and chives. This set also comes with a new savoury dessert – Teochew-style yam and salted egg mochi (greasy, not our fave). Essentially a mochi coated with sesame seeds and filled with salted egg and orh nee.

3 of 5 Dim Sum Box C, $15.90

For this bento box, there’s stuffed beancurd skin, siew mai, har gao, along with the signature baked chilli crab puff, a steamed salted egg custard bun and rice rolls with prawns.

  • 4 of 5 Dim Sum Box D, $15.90

The last option also has the baked chilli crab puff, siew mai and har gao. What’s different: skinny fried spring rolls with prawns, Cantonese sponge cake and steamed glutinous rice with Chinese sausages. The latter is pretty good if very filling: moist, chewy rice stuffed with fragrant lup cheong kissed with notes of Chinese rose wine.
