Jumbo’s New Seafood-In-A-Bag Delivery Service Offers Chilli Lobster & Mala Crab
It’s called Hack It.
The Jumbo restaurant group has jumped onto the seafood boil bandwagon with its new virtual concept Hack It. Except instead of just the classic Cajun spices, its seafood-in-a-bag comes drenched in your choice of “Southeast Asian” sauces.
Choose from four options. ‘Xiao Long Xia’ In A Pack ($42) is the cheapest offering and includes 500g worth of langoustine from Norway (what they call a “small lobster” in mandarin here). Crab In A Pack ($66) features a live mud crab (600g) while the Lobster In A Pack ($66) stars a live Boston lobster (500g). The Deluxe Seafood Pack ($108) includes both the crab and lobster. All options also come with clams (100g), mussels (100g), prawns (200g), and pearl corn (100g).
Your seafood in a bag is tossed in your choice of six sauces. They include the Black Pepper Sauce, Mala ($6 top-up), which comes with extra lotus root, assorted mushrooms and broccoli, or Ginger Spring Onion Sauce, a Cajun-inspired Sweet and Spicy Tomato Sauce, Creamy Butter Sauce with curry leaves and a Chilli Crab one. We had the latter and found it tasty but a tad too sweet.
To go with your bag of seafood is a range of zi char-style sides, like the Hack It Mid WIngs ($9.80); crispy battered chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce made with curry leaves, chilli padi and roasted sesame seeds. Plus an addictive Seafood Baked Rice with Chilli Crab Sauce ($9.80) — garlicky fried rice baked with assorted shellfish like clams and mussels, draped in melted mozzarella cheese and chilli crab sauce.
We like that the food is thoughtfully delivered to your doorstep with disposable bibs, gloves and even a cute Hack It-themed paper ‘tablecloth’ for easy cleanup.
