Everyone knows that a brownie tastes best paired with ice cream. So Magnum’s latest ice cream bar underscored by a layer of the chocolate bake seems like a natural pairing.

1 of 4 Magnum Brownie, $4.50 each

Although it’s called a brownie, Magnum is after all, an ice cream brand. So this means you get a thin layer of the brownie topped with a thick block of “velvety vanilla ice cream swirled in caramel sauce”. It comes sans the usual stick and looks like a chocolate bar/Eskimo Pie.

  • 2 of 4 The chocolate shell

Of course, the entire thing is coated in Magnum’s signature chocolate shell that crackles comfortingly with every bite.

    3 of 4 The filling

The cross section looks promising: vanilla ice cream swirled with toasty caramel, like a tasty tiger. However, we discerned mostly vanilla ice cream and barely any caramelly notes. What of the brownie, which the brand calls a “brownie biscuit”? Well, it’s a bit stiff and dry, but becomes rather chewy after a couple of munches with the ice cream. Its rich chocolatey flavour is also quite brownie-like.

    4 of 4 Verdict

Not bad. This is more like an ice cream cookie sandwich since the brownie has a somewhat ‘biscuity’ texture. Probably worth trying once — the combination of smooth ice cream, chewy brownie and crisp chocolate shell make a rather fun pairing.

Available at all 7-Eleven stores, while stocks last.
