McDonald’s used to offer fried chicken on its menu from 1998 to 2002. Called Chicken McCrispy, it gave KFC some serious competition before abruptly disappearing, much to the dismay of its fans.

The chicken was well-loved for its succulence and crispy skin, which was achieved by steam-marinating the chook before deep-frying it.

Last November, McDonald’s unexpectedly brought back the McCrispy after an 18-year absence. The comeback was launched at only 10 restaurant outlets, with long queues forming at some branches.

In response to 8days.sg’s queries, a rep for the fast food chain said the limited run was a “store trial that enables us to gather valuable customer feedback”.

As it turns out, McDonald’s was indeed testing the demand for Chicken McCrispy, because it announced today (June 29) that it will make the fried chicken a permanent menu item from July 1, 2021.

The McCrispy will be available as an a la carte bucket, or as a set meal with French fries and drinks. Prices below:

As a launch promotion from July 1 to 31, McDonald’s is selling vouchers via its LazMall store on Lazada for the Chicken McCrispy value bundle. Each voucher is priced at $20.50 (usual price $21.50), which lets you redeem the bundle via the My McDonald’s app at any McDonald’s outlet serving the McCrispy.

On July 6, McDonald’s will also offer a $7.40 voucher for its McCrispy Extra Value Meal (usual price $8.40). This voucher is only available for 24 hours.

There will also be free limited-edition Chicken McCrispy merchandise up for grabs via Lazada, including a giant drumstick plushie in a bucket and a cute brown T-shirt printed with a yellow McCrispy design.

The Chicken McCrispy is available from July 1 after breakfast hours at all McDonald's outlets except Shell Tampines, Shell Hougang, Shell Havelock, Clementi Avenue 3, Parklane and Tampines Kiosk. Delivery via McDelivery, GrabFood & Foodpanda.
