Popular Gyudon Chain Sukiya From Japan Opening In S’pore, Cheesy Beef On Menu
Sukiya boasts 2,000 outlets in Japan alone.
Step aside, Yoshinoya, and say hello to Sukiya (not to be confused with Suki-ya, a local Japanese hotpot eatery). It’s also a quick-service beef rice bowl chain that originated in Japan in 1982. It currently boasts more than 2,000 outlets in Japan alone. The gyudon chain also has a presence in eight other countries like Malaysia and Hong Kong. It’s opening its first outlet in Singapore at Suntec City soon — the date is unconfirmed.
Here are some of their signature dishes:
Signature rice bowl topped with thinly sliced beef and onions simmered in a mildly sweet soy-based sauce. This is the most basic dish on their menu and comes in S, M, M-extra (more meat than M), L, XL, Mega sizes. The smallest bowl costs about 250 yen in Japan, about S$3.20, while the largest one is 780 yen (S$10).
Customise your gyudon with toppings like cheese or kimchi. This one features three types of cheeses atop your beef. You can also choose to add on items like miso soup and egg.
There’s a saucy curry version made with beef stock, served with their usual thinly sliced beef and onions on Japanese grains.
Sukiya is opening soon at Suntec City. https://www.sukiya.jp/en/
