Song Kee Fishball Noodle Reopens Tomorrow At New Yio Chu Kang Road Shop
You can enjoy its fab handmade herh keow again.
Here is some good news in the time of Covid-19: popular family-run kopitiam eatery Song Kee Fishball Noodle is finally opening the doors to its new home at Yio Chu Kang Road tomorrow (May 18). This comes after renovation for the space was delayed due to the circuit breaker. The shop was originally slated to open in April.
This is the second time it has shifted in recent years; in 2017, it moved to the Joo Chiat neighbourhood from its original Serangoon stall (which has since been taken over by the unaffiliated Finest Songkee’s Fishball Noodles, run by a cousin of Song Kee’s owners).
Song Kee Fishball Noodle is most famous for its luscious herh keow, which co-owner Chua Poh Seng, who runs the business with his wife Candy and his two brothers, rolls by hand painstakingly with fish meat and tapioca flour.
But Candy tells 8days.sg there will be no delivery service offered for Song Kee’s fishball noodles “at the moment”. As to whether they will start delivery after they settle down, she muses, “Maybe.” So you will have to tapow their nosh for now, and be responsible about social distancing (hawkers, like Candy and her husband, have voiced their concerns about maintaining crowd control as they grapple with cooking and serving customers).
