Tart Specialist Drips Bakery Cafe Opens New Outlet In Ngee Ann City
Its flagship café has been in Tiong Bahru for 10 years.
Tiong Bahru regulars will be familiar with Drips Bakery Cafe — the spacious, cosy spot has been nestled in the hipster enclave for about a decade now. It’s popular for its fruit tarts as well as comforting old-school butter-based cakes and pies. Its original co-owner who has since left the biz used to be a pastry chef at Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts (which is why the quality of the tarts at Tiong Bahru have changed somewhat since its early days, we think).
Drips opened its second outlet at Takashimaya on 1 November.
The latest outlet is a more compact outfit with 15 seats vs the 50-seat flagship branch. Here, only tarts, cakes and coffee are on offer, while the Tiong Bahru outlet also serves hot food like chicken curry and nasi lemak. The new cafe is located where grain bowl joint Aloha Poke used to be.
The decade-old flagship cafe is in a spacious shophouse in Tiong Bahru. Here’s a look at the brand’s signature tarts, also sold at the Orchard Road outlet:
All the tart shells are made with French butter. This is filled with Madagascar vanilla bean-infused custard and generously topped with seasonal fruits like berries.
Loaded with Australian lemon curd, and crowned with flame-torched meringue.
A bittersweet number with French dark chocolate and cocoa powder.
Want to try all three signature tarts? Get this box of six miniature ones. However, while the Tiong Bahru branch only allows you to pick three flavours, you get to choose up to six flavours at the new outlet.
The new Drips Bakery Cafe is at #B2-31 Ngee Ann City, 391 Orchard Rd, S238872. Open daily 8am - 9pm. Tel: 6222 0400. https://www.drips.com.sg
