Here’s another unlikely pairing during these Circuit Breaker times when most standalone bubble tea shops aren’t allowed to operate unless they piggyback their drinks on a restaurant that serves hot food. One-Michelin-star Chinese restaurant PUTIEN, which specialises in Heng Hwa cuisine, has collaborated with Taiwanese brown sugar bubble milk brand Tiger Sugar. It’s not like you couldn’t sip Tiger’s famous brown sugar milk drinks before this, though: its Pasarbella store in Suntec City is allowed to remain open for takeaway and delivery during the CB period because Pasarbella is categorised as a food court (all stalls in food courts, hawker centres and coffee shops are allowed to continue operating). But — the draw here is you don’t have to order grub from PUTIEN and drinks from Tiger Sugar separately. Both are now conveniently available via a single delivery platform.

The special set comprises a main course from the eatery and Tiger’s boba drink. There’s only one drink option: Tiger Sugar’s all-time best-seller, the Brown Sugar Boba Milk with Cream Mousse ($5.60 a la carte). If you haven’t had it yet, well, it’s fresh milk layered with brown sugar syrup (brewed with four different types of brown sugar), tapioca pearls and topped with velvety cream mousse.

On the PUTIEN front, however, you get to choose one of four main courses for the set meal. Such as Lor Mee (a light coloured version with Putian wheat noodles, pork belly, prawns and clams braised in pork stock). Or the signature Fried Heng Hwa Been Hoon, starring superfine vermicelli sun-dried in Putian, plus seafood. If you can’t decide, get the “Ca Fen”, a soupy seafood dish with a mix of wheat noodles, bee hoon and mee sua.
