We all know how live stream auctions are a huge money-making machine these days but not everyone doing it is raking in the big bucks.

Hongkong actor Deric Wan, best known for his villainous roles in TVB classics in the ‘80s and ‘90s like Looking Back in Anger, The Breaking Point, and Golden Faith, has been furthering his career in China since the 2010s. The 56-year-old also dabbles in real estate and has businesses in the beauty industry there.

However, his showbiz career has taken a hit in recent years, and so he has shifted his focus to live stream sales like so many of his peers.

Deric was recently seen selling sanitary pads on Douyin but according to reports, only about 1,000 viewers tuned in during the session. His sales were also said to be dismal.

Many netizens commented that it “felt very strange” to see a male celebrity in his fifties selling feminine hygiene products.

Even though some praised the star for letting go of his dignity to sell the pads, most agreed that the whole session was awkward , to say the least.

Seems like life has been rough for Deric in recent years.

In another live stream session, an emotional Deric went on a rant about how tough it is being a celebrity.

Looking flushed and a little tipsy, he lamented: Our lives may appear glamorous, but it’s worse than being in jail. I am not like other stars, who have people to help them film videos, so they are very popular. How come I barely have 2,000 people watching my live broadcast? There were 30,000 people when I first started the live stream.

When his wife, Chinese actress Zhao Ting heard this, she quickly covered his mouth and told him to end the session.

Many netizens also commented that Deric was probably “very drunk” and urged him to stop talking.
