From Cheongsams To Local Designs, Here Is What MPs Wore To NDP 2021
These MPs (and one repeat offender) stood out on the grandstand for their sartorial choices.
Although this year’s National Day Parade was belated and scaled down from previous ones due to the pandemic, the Singapore sprit and pride were strong. In addition to donning national colours, many MPs picked pieces from Singaporean fashion labels or custom designs by young local designers. Never let it be said that our MPs are obiang hor!
Trust MP for Tampines GRC Baey Yam Keng to up the style stakes every year. Designed by homegrown designer Sheree Toh, his shirt, a modern interpretation of the Tang suit, features a waist tie and bamboo motif that symbolises strength and resilience.
We're pretty sure Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Dr Amy Khor turned heads when she walked down the seating gallery in this elegant red flower embellished top.
This Ans.ein cheongsam West Coast GRC MP Foo Mee Har donned may seem traditional, but look closer and you will see Hello Kitties peeking out from the peonies. Love.
Instead of floral prints, PM Lee opted for something more whimsical this year — a red shirt with bird motifs.

How cute is Sengkang GRC MP He Ting Ru's polka dotted cheongsam? We love the scarlet hue and flowy silhouette. Less enthused about dressing up were the other Workers’ Party MPs who opted for their NDP uniform of matching red tops and black pants.
Another MP who killed it in the fashion stakes is Tampines GRC MP Cheng Li Hui, who wowed in a tailored wrap jumpsuit by Max Tan. This one-piece, which combines a tuxedo-style top with sarong pants, is a breath of fresh air.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Maliki Osman sure loves Singapore’s national flower. He donned yet another bold orchid shirt to the NDP.
This cheongsam with flutter sleeves is the traditional yet modern dress we all need.
We have a major crush on Cheryl Chan’s Ying the Label floral tunic, which is cinched at the waist for a flattering fit. Very chic.
Also looking chic was Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu in this flowy blouse with a delicate floral design.
The striking design on Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong’s shirt reminds us of stars in the milky way.
Okay, so the Ang Mo Kio GRC MP donned this coral shirt to the NDP in 2017 (pic, right), but we’ll let him off the hook ‘cos of his fun Converse sneakers and mask.
Accessories game strong. Parliamentary Secretary for Communications and Information Rahayu Mahzam jazzed up her simple white and red get-up with an orchid print scarf and pouch inspired by Singapore transportation from social enterprise Singapore Fashion Runway. They have matching masks and tees too.
Also going local was Ang Mo Kio GRC MP Nadia, who donned a red jumpsuit from designer Sabrina Goh and kaya toast print sash from Reckless Ericka. Cute.
The bright colours and clashing prints make this an interesting batik shirt. Wish the Yio Chu Kang SMC MP had worn white sneakers instead.
The National Day Parade is available on catch-up on meWATCH.
