Here’s something else to add to your post-pandemic travel bucket list. Universal Studios Japan will soon launch Super Nintendo World, a brand new zone at the theme park in Osaka. The highly-anticipated attraction opens Feb 4, and is the world’s first Nintendo-themed amusement park zone. But you don’t have to wait until travel bans are lifted to get a glimpse of the Mushroom Kingdom.

The folks at USJ have launched an interactive online tour, which includes a virtual walkthrough of the park. Yup, you can now immerse yourself in a video game and hang out with Super Mario and pals from wherever you are in the world.
All you have to do is to head to the Super Nintendo World website (https://super-nintendo-world.usj.co.jp/ja/jp/home). The virtual journey begins with you whizzing through the familiar warp pipe to get a bird’s eye view of the entire zone. Scroll down to venture further into the park, where your first stop is Bowser’s Castle. Other pit stops include Yoshi’s Adventure and themed restaurant Kinopio’s Café.
Super Nintendo World was initially slated to open last year, but was delayed due to the pandemic. Once it opens its doors, visitors will be able to race on actual Mario Karts, visit Peach’s Castle, and Bowser’s Castle. USJ has also revealed that the entire zone is unlike a typical theme park — rather, it’s an immersive experience where visitors will feel like they’re in the midst of actual gameplay, and can jump to punch ‘question blocks’ to collect virtual coins, while they frolic among characters like Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi.

According to reports, there are plans to open a Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Singapore by 2025. The news was recently confirmed by Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, though details are vague at the moment.
