Sometimes, it’s the most innocuous things that end up causing you serious harm. Just ask Malaysian actor Jordan Voon, who posted this scary PSA on his Facebook on Thursday (Sep 16).

The 56-year-old is best known for winning the Best Actor award at the 4th Golden Awards in 2017, an annual awards show presented by television channel ntv7.

And like any other actor worth his salt, Jordan has a flair for drama, beginning his tale by setting the scene.

“Yesterday, in the afternoon around 4:30pm on September 15 2021, it was raining cats and dogs, with thunder and lightning in the sky… At that moment, this guy [Jordan Voon] was this close to bidding goodbye to everyone and departing from the world forever…”, he wrote.

As it turns out, the actor had choked on a very unlikely object — the plastic ring that’s often found below the cap of a plastic mineral water bottle.

“I picked up the water bottle beside me as I was thirsty, and by force of habit, to prevent the bottle from touching my lips, I opened my mouth wide and poured the water in my mouth.” he wrote.

“And in that very moment, I felt something hard slide into my throat… [it was] stuck. I rushed to try and cough it out, but it slid even deeper instead.” he went on to recount.

Luckily, Jordan wasn’t alone, as his wife, singer Zheng Bi Ai, was by his side. However, she merely thought that he’d choked on some water, as Jordan continued to attempt to cough the plastic ring out.

“It felt like there was something holding on to my throat, it was as if there was some sort of force choking me and starting to stiffen, making it hard to even breathe.” he wrote.

The couple’s 15-year-old son Ishan also rushed into the room to help Jordan, as the actor recalled starting to feel “light-headed”, and even losing strength in his legs.

Although Jordan did not mention how long the ordeal lasted, he noted that his family were getting frantic, as he continued to try and cough out the plastic ring. Thankfully, he managed to do it soon after, and he fell to the ground, in a “half-kneeling” position.

“I’m sharing about this incident to earnestly remind everyone to remove the plastic ring from their plastic bottles before taking a sip in the future. I never imagined that this plastic ring would nearly cost me my life. If not, I’d have been very embarrassed about the news headlines today… local artiste Jordan Voon choked to death on a plastic bottle ring… that’s really very embarrassing!” he wrote.
