In 2016, celeb couple Darren Lim, 48, and Evelyn Tan, 44, made the big move from boat to land in order to prepare their eldest child, Kristen, for PSLE, after living on their 500 sq ft boat full-time for four years.
And now, some five years on, the couple and their four kids have pretty much settled into life on land, with Evelyn homeschooling their three eldest kids, Kristen, 15, Jairus, 13 and Way, 11.
Their youngest, Elliott, seven, is not homeschooled and currently attends primary school, according to a report by The Straits Times, while Kristen and Jairus are working towards a high school diploma, which is equivalent to an A-level certificate.
View this post on InstagramJust the other day, Darren, who is in the running for the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste award at this year's Star Awards, took to his Instagram to upload some snaps of their family’s latest bonding activity — building a seriously impressive Lego City set from scratch, complete with train tracks and model planes (Hmm... why no model boat?).
The actor, whom you can catch on screen now in Mediacorp drama, CTRL, which revolves around the world of hackers, shared in his caption that they completed the entire thing in just two days.
Pretty impressive, if you ask us.
But aside from their Lego creation, what caught our eye was just how much the couple’s kids have grown up in these five years.
In fact, their two oldest kids, Kristen and Jarius, are already preparing for their future careers, as Evelyn shared in a 2019 interview.
According to Evelyn, Kristen wants to be a singer, while Jarius wants to be a streamer on Twitch, a popular online streaming platform.
A quick scroll through Darren’s Instagram also reveals that the family's been very busy indeed in recent years, with the actor, who plays Gavin Teo's dad in Teenage Textbook — The Series, sharing snippets of activities they’ve done together, from Lego building, to beer-brewing, and even some hands-on carpentry work.
As Evelyn shared in the same 2019 interview: “We are in an era where things are going to be very, very different. Even with a degree, you may not be able to get the job you want, so I’d rather let them be guided by their passions and be developed as a whole person with an attitude of learning.”
