Foodie Friday: What The Stars Ate This Week (Jun 25-Jul 2)
All the photos that made us hungry this week.
This week, Li Nanxing indulged in a messy seafood feast; Fann Wong baked plenty of durian puffs (much to Christopher Lee’s delight); and Qi Yuwu managed to savour the taste of home. Read on for more.
What he ate: Crustacean feast
Yummy factor: Ah Ge looks like he couldn’t be happier to get first dibs on Dancing Crab’s upcoming menu item — The Ultimate Trio — a glorious mess featuring an abundance of fried prawns and crabs, flavoured with curry leaves and popcorn.
What she ate: French fries
Yummy factor: Can you say no to fries? Well, apparently Joanne can’t — especially when they’re freshly-fried and dipped in sauces. And in case you’re wondering, Joanne had her sinful fix at Lombardo’s Burgers.
What she ate: Durian puffs
Yummy factor: Instead of sleeping in, Fann made the most out of a rainy day by staying home and baking durian puffs with generous fillings of mao shan wang, much to the delight of hubby Christopher Lee, who loved how delicious the bakes were.
What he ate: Traditional Japanese sweets
Yummy factor: Lawrence had a sweet time — literally — making nerikiri (a traditional Japanese sweet made with sweetened white bean paste and glutinous rice flour) with his fans at Baked by Wolf, and the 3D kitty-shaped sweets turned out so adorable, one can hardly bear to eat them.
What he ate: Chee cheong fun
Yummy factor: Yuwu got to relieve a little of his homesickness when he chanced upon Yin Ji — a popular restaurant chain from his hometown of Guangzhou — at Far East Square. And while he can't travel back right now to enjoy his favourite foods, at least he can still have a taste of home with Yin Ji’s silky smooth chee cheong fun.
What she ate: Claypot rice
Yummy factor: This week, Michelle had her usual homemade feast over at celebrity hairstylist Addy Lee’s crib, and from what we can see, the star of the meal was the piping hot claypot rice. Filled to the brim with ingredients, it probably went really well with the other stir-fried dishes.
What they ate: Dinner with a view
Yummy factor: What better way to celebrate Nick’s 32nd birthday (Jun 28) than by indulging in a decadent Japanese dinner while admiring picturesque views of Marina Bay Sands? Along with Hong Ling, the birthday boy tucked into the freshest carpaccio with thinly-sliced truffles, buttery uni sushi, and more.
What she ate: Durian feast
Yummy factor: We can only imagine how excited durian lover Sin Nee was when she tried the unique durian dishes in front of her. From grilled durian with cheese, to durian puree burger and Musang King beer, find out the Mediacorp host's review of the wacky dishes on #JustSwipeLah!
What she ate: Personalised birthday cake
Yummy factor: How cute is Jeanette’s birthday cake from her fan club, Jeanius? Inspired by her newly-opened patisserie, Once Upon A Time, the gorgeous confection features fresh berries and figs, tiers of cakes and bakes, as well as a 3D version of the illustration seen in the bakery’s logo.
What she ate: Ramen pancake
Yummy factor: Bonnie jazzed up regular instant ramyoen by having hers as a pancake instead — first by cooking and shaping the noodles in a pot before transferring it to a pan to fry. And it sure looked like an interesting iteration with its crisp outer layer and disc-like appearance. Plus, all you need is a packet of instant noodles, sausages and an egg, and a dash of creativity.
What he ate: Thai food at Diandin Leluk
Yummy factor: From an impressively-plated lobster fried rice with runny egg to the classic tom yum seafood soup and what looks like the crispy catfish dish with mango salad, Thomas certainly indulged when it came to his Thai feast at Diandin Leluk.
What they ate: Birthday meal
Yummy factor: Xiuhuan and Lingling celebrated the latter’s birthday (Jun 25) at NY Verden Bar and Grill, where they indulged in sumptuous grilled meats and seafood, as well as tortellini and fresh tartare. And for those with a sweet tooth, their roasted pineapple dessert with pistachio gelato will prove hard to resist.
What she ate: Steak frites
Yummy factor: It’s safe to say that Michelle enjoyed her time at L'Entrecôte, where she sipped on white wine and dipped potatoes into baked camembert for starters, before moving on to her larger-than-life main course of classic steak frites doused in plenty of gravy (all the better to savour those shoestrings fries with).
What they ate: Chilli crab with fried mantous
Yummy factor: Even though Jade had lunch earlier, she couldn’t resist having some of Sheila’s chilli crab gravy with fried mantous — specially prepared for Sheila by her husband Deon Woo. And because he probably wanted to make sure she is full from lunch, he even added some fried dim sum for good measure. How sweet.
What she ate: Dragon sushi
Yummy factor: From lifelike dragon sushi decorated with sliced avocado and mentaiko mayo to fried hamachi cheeks, grilled unagi rice bowls and crisp tempura, Xiuhuan has outdone herself once more (despite experiencing a couple of hiccups along the way for her maiden dragon sushi).
What they ate: Comfort food
Yummy factor: After a gruelling 11km walk together from East Coast Park to Esplanade, Huifang and Geping decided to make a pitstop at Supply & Demand for a much-needed break, with Huifang gulping down an ice-cold pint of beer. And between them, they also polished off a sausage platter, satay, and more.
What she ate: Colourful wholegrain wrap
Yummy factor: Jaime’s practically a poster girl for all things health and wellness, so it probably isn’t surprising that she put together this wholesome #TikTokwrap of grated cheese, shredded tuna and spinach and cherry tomatoes. Divide the ingredients into quarter, quarter, half , fold it like this folded sushi, then pan fry till crispy and toasty on both sides.
What she ate: Japanese eats
Yummy factor: If Hayley had to eat one type of cuisine for the rest of her life, it'd probably be Japanese. And we’re not surprised, seeing how she looks like she can’t wait to tuck into her tantalising set of fresh sashimi, sushi, seafood broth and chawanmushi.
What she ate: Farm-to-table creations
Yummy factor: For kiddos to love their greens, the dishes at Little Farm must have been pretty outstanding. Along with her family, Jamie got to try the Spectacular Menu, comprising all things spinach. Made with fresh greens from Sustenir, the menu features cheesy spinach quesadillas, spinach ragout and more. There’s even a spinach brownie, which Jamie enjoyed.
