Shane was caught drink driving at around 11.20pm on September 17 last year, when he was stopped at a roadblock on Java Road towards Nicoll Highway.

He failed a first breathalyser test, and when taken back to traffic police headquarters for another test, it was found that he had 49mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. For reference, the legal limit is 35mcg in 100ml of breath. A traffic police officer also observed that Shane “reeked of alcohol .

According to CNA, Shane’s lawyer, S S Dhillon said in court that Shane had thought the alcohol level in his blood had subsided as he drank a lot of water and consumed only two small bottles of beer that night.

Shane’s lawyer also stated that Shane had been retrenched following adverse publicity”. Earlier, Mediacorp had announced that they would be “parting ways” with Shane, and the actor's contract was officially terminated on May 4 this year.
