After A 3-Year Search, This Model Is Playing The Late Anita Mui In Upcoming Biopic
It will be 31-year-old Hongkong model Louise Wong's film debut. No pressure, indeed.
Fans of late Cantopop diva Anita Mui will soon get to see their idol's life on the big screen.
According to those who knew Anita well, the showbiz legend had always wanted to make movies that could leave lasting legacies.
In 2003, director Zhang Yimou created a role specially for Anita in his wuxia epic House of Flying Daggers. However, she passed away from cervical cancer before she could film any of her scenes.
Now, film producer Bill Kong, who produced Daggers as well as the Oscar-nominated Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, is going to honour Anita's wish by turning her dramatic life into a movie.
The release date for the biopic, which is titled Anita, has not been announced.

But finding an “actress who possesses Anita’s aura wasn’t easy.
According to reports, the production team spent more than three years looking for a suitable actress to play Anita before casting 31-year-old Hongkong model Louise Wong.
As this was Louise’s first time acting in a movie, not to mention, she has to play someone so famous and well-loved, she was worried about not being able to do the part justice.
Louise, who had to undergo intensive singing and dance training for more than half a year, revealed in an interview that she locked herself in a hotel room for two days to get into the right state of mind.
She later realised that it is “fate that allowed her to be part of this movie”.
The self-professed Anita Mui fan said: [Anita] is an example to our generation that success does not depend only on talent, hard work is equally important.
Like Anita, Louise grew up in a single-parent family.
She got her start as a model after winning the 2006 Elite Model Look Asia Pacific competition when she was just 16.
Last year, she married Australia-born singer Sheldon Lo after dating for five years.
