Fans of HK Singer Anson Lo Splashed Over S$174K On Cruise Ship Light-Up, Billboard Display To Celebrate His Birthday
The displays have become popular IG spots in Hongkong.
Hongkong singer Anson Lo, who is a member of Cantopop boyband Mirror, turned 26 on July 7 and his fans spared no expense to celebrate the occasion.
Fans splurged more than HK$1mil (S$174,000) on birthday greetings for their idol, including renting a giant billboard display at Tsim Sha Tsui pier and a four-day special exhibition.
The highlight was definitely the LED display on the side of cruise ship, which was lit up with flashing hearts and the words 07 JUL ANSON . Nearly a thousand people gathered on Wednesday night (Jul 7) to catch a glimpse of it as it sailed near Siu Sai Wan at 8pm.
This stunt reportedly cost a five-figure sum.
According to reports, fans began setting up cameras along the usually quiet walking trail from Heng Fa Chuen to Siu Sai Wan at 6pm just to catch the LED display.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of fans also headed to the Star Ferry pier in Tsim Sha Tsui, where a giant billboard wishing Anson a happy birthday was on display.
Even veteran Hongkong actress Louis Lee, who happened to be in the area, couldn’t resist snapping a pic at the billboard ‘cos FOMO.
“When I went shopping in Harbour City, I saw many Anson Lo fans rushing to take pictures [at the billboard], so I joined in too. Young idols are amazing! Louise wrote on Instagram.
To thank fans for their support, Anson made an appearance at the billboard on Thursday morning (Jul 8) to the surprise of the public.
That’s not all. Fans spent a four-figure sum on a four-day exhibition at a dance studio where Anson frequents.
They also took out bus ads on bus service 1A, which plies between Sau Mau Ping and Tsim Sha Tsui.
The ads, which feature an image of the star and the message “Happy Birthday”, will run till August 24.
Anson’s face also appears on 45 LED advertising boards at bus stops across Hongkong.
