Jacqueline Wong is probably the most hated woman in Asia now and while her taxi tryst with Andy Hui has increased her profile substantially — it was reported that her name was Googled more times in Hongkong than ‘Notre Dame’ over the past week — many people are also sure that the backseat affair has ended her career.

Earlier reports had said that Jacqueline is now jobless because she has been replaced in all her upcoming dramas and that those shows she had filmed prior to the scandal have been shelved indefinitely because of her unpopularity. It also turns out that viewers don’t even want to hear her voice. TVB drama Come Home Love: Lo and Behold, which is now airing on TV, recently had its theme song replaced because it was performed by Jacqueline.

 

Reporters caught up with Jacqueline’s TVB boss Virginia Lok to find out if this were all true and the exec confirmed the rumours. “Frankly speaking, yes. [What happened] really affected a lot of the work flow. The company had to rearrange a lot of work but we took care of it and [her roles] have been replaced with other artistes,” said Virginia. It’s rumoured that Hongkong actor Raymond Wong is furious with the situation because he may have to reshoot all his scenes with Jacqueline, who he romances in the upcoming drama Forensic Heroes IV.

Virginia also reveals that Jacqueline’s completed projects have indeed been kept in cold storage: “I don’t know when they will be aired. Let’s hope time passes faster!” she said.

Virginia was then asked if Jacqueline’s contract with TVB has been terminated. “This is something we haven’t thought about because she still has many years left on her contract. [Jacqueline] was the one who wanted to stop work temporarily because she is unable to take on any projects for now.”

As for those rumours about Jacqueline having left the country for Canada, Virginia says: “She is still in Hongkong. Her sisters are accompanying her at home. She is emotionally unstable now. I just spoke to her yesterday and she was crying non-stop.” Virginia then added that Jacqueline would not be addressing the media any time soon. “Let’s wait for when she is ready. We’re still very worried about her.”
 

But it’s not like everyone is against her.

Former Mr Hongkong contestant and personal trainer Flow Leung caused a stir when he posted a message on his IG defending Jacqueline. The aspiring actor, who has had small roles in TVB dramas, wrote that Jacqueline had confided in him about how her relationship with Kenneth had hit a snag because they didn’t see each other often. “She also said she had fallen in love with a married man and was feeling very guilty,” wrote Flow. “That man is a Heavenly Queen’s husband, and he had told her that their marriage had been in trouble for a long time, which was why she was even willing to be with him. If this is the case, then she is a victim. After the reports came out, no one spoke up for her. I don’t understand why she has not said anything and just took all the blame. The guy isn’t very rich. He is also not very good-looking. And she wasn’t prostituting herself. She was a woman searching for love. That guy couldn’t give her anything, she just fell in love with the wrong person. Yes, she was at fault, but she doesn’t deserve a death sentenced!”


 

Flow’s statement immediately drew the ire of netizens who blasted him for using the scandal for publicity and for having logic issues . Flow later sent a message to the media saying that he was prepared for the criticism and that what he had written was the truth. “I only wrote what I knew. It was so everyone could look at the incident from another angle. I didn’t say she wasn’t at fault. I said she was at fault. She's not like how she was portrayed in the video, that she had made the first move or that she had seduced him. It’s obvious that their relationship didn’t start that day.”

Virginia also mentioned Jacqueline’s boyfriend Kenneth Ma, who she has nothing but praise for. The actor had continued working when the scandal unfolded in the media and even turned down TVB’s offer that he take a break. “Men like Kenneth are extinct!” said Virginia. “He is very professional, very handsome!”
