To stay healthy, Lin Ching Hsia, 66, has been keeping herself active and has lost an impressive 11kg in six months.

Leading a more sporty lifestyle does come with its own risks and the retired screen goddess recently revealed that she got injured while playing badminton earlier this year.

She was hit in the eye by a shuttlecock but she brushed off the incident as she didn’t feel any pain or had problems with her vision.

After the game, Ching Hsia went shopping when suddenly she noticed that her vision was obstructed by a large number of black spots. Worried by what was happening, she immediately went to see a doctor.

After the checkup, the doctor assured her that her vision wasn’t permanently affected, and prescribed her eye drops and antibiotics.

Not convinced that there was nothing wrong, Ching Hsia sought a second opinion from an ophthalmologist, who confirmed that she was okay.

However, the ophthalmologist did see cataracts forming in Ching Hsia's eyes and told her that she would need to go for surgery to remove them before her vision gets compromised.

She has since recovered from the operation and now calls the badminton-induced injury a “blessing in disguise”.

Ching Hsia also said that she can now read without reaching out for her glasses and that her vision is “as good as when she was much younger”.
