Stars are no longer standing by as keyboard warriors spread false rumours about them. Nicky Wu’s wife, Chinese actress Cecilia Liu, has just won a lawsuit against a netizen for defamation, according to a court ruling in Beijing yesterday (Oct 22). The defendant, known only as Mr Zhou, had made claims online that Cecilia had been cheating on Nicky, and that their six-month-old son was a result of her extra-marital affair.
The couple immediately took legal action once rumours began last April, and sued Mr Zhou for damaging her reputation.
Mr Zhou was found guilty of defaming Cecilia and was fined 41,290 yuan (S$8,000). On top of that, he will have to cover Cecilia’s legal fees, as well as take out ads in any national newspaper for 15 days to publicly apologise to Cecilia.
Cecilia and Nicky wed in 2015 and welcomed their baby boy, known only as ‘Bubu’, in April this year.
