Veteran HK Actor Paul Chun Reveals How Leslie Cheung Saved His Life
It was the late showbiz icon's quick thinking that saved Paul from what would have been a horrific accident.
They say split-second decisions can change your life, and for veteran Hongkong actor Paul Chun, this couldn’t be more true.
The 76-year-old revealed in a recent interview that the late Leslie Cheung saved his life when they were filming 1992 comedy Arrest the Restless.
“There was a scene where I was supposed to be in a car that had caught fire, but as I was climbing in, Leslie suddenly became very serious and told me to get out, recalled Paul, who is the brother of actor David Chiang and director Derek Yee.
Paul didn’t take Leslie seriously as he thought the latter was joking. Driven by the urgency of the situation, Leslie dragged Paul away from the burning car.
“And [the car] exploded just after we stepped away from it, said Paul.
Thankfully, neither actor was hurt and Paul said that he would have died if not for Leslie’s quick thinking.
In 2003, Leslie took his own life by jumping from the 24th floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Hongkong. He was 46.
