Yanxi Palace’s Wei Yingluo and Cecilia Cheung Are Attending Star Awards 2019
Jerry Yan, Roger Kwok and Joyce Cheng are also slated to appear.
This year’s Star Awards just got injected with a major dose of palace intrigue. It was announced today (April 3) that Chinese actress Wu Jinyan who played the whip-smart palace maid Wei Yingluo in the mega-hit Chinese drama Story Of Yanxi Palace will be attending local showbiz’s biggest night, which is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
Jinyan is undoubtedly the biggest breakout star of 2018 and we hear from her Yanxi Palace co-star Lawrence Wong that the actress enjoys speaking in English… or at least to him. So let’s see if she will let slip a few English phrases when she goes on stage to present an award.
Joining her is Cecilia Cheung, Asia’s reigning queen of controversy. Correct us if we’re wrong but her Star Awards appearance could very well be Ceci's first public appearance since giving birth to her third son last November. Cecilia is known to be a big fan of our country — the lack of paparazzi is a major draw for her — and had lived here with her two sons some years back. But despite her love for Singapore, we doubt she’ll be announcing who her mystery baby daddy is at the event… though one can never be too sure given Ceci’s penchant for big surprises.
Taiwanese hunk and OG F4 heartthrob Jerry Yan will also be attending the awards. The 42-year-old star has been a tabloid mainstay in recent years, no thanks to his on-off relationship with Lin Chiling, and his appearance at this year’s Star Awards will thrill his fans who we're sure can still remember the lyrics to the Meteor Garden theme song. You know who you are.
Here are the other stars slated to appear.
The brooding Taiwanese actor is now working on the Taiwanese-Singapore co-production All Is Well opposite Romeo Tan, Sheila Sim and Elvin Ng.
The Taiwanese host is the daughter of Hongkong funny man Eric Tsang.
The Taiwanese hitmaker is tipped to be the Jay Chou of the millennial generation.
The daughter of the late Lydia Sum is also a pop star and the owner of a successful cookie franchise in Hongkong.
The Hongkong actor quit TVB in 2018 after 30 years and is now represented by comedian Wong Cho Lam.
The Taiwanese star is also a member of popular early noughties boyband 5566, which recently threw a successful reunion concert tour in Taiwan.
