Talk about a mood lifter. From Jun 13, you'll be able to watch three popular homegrown stage productions — Army Daze, Army Daze 2 and Beauty World — for free online.

The shows will premiere on YouTube on different dates, and all will be available to watch for free until Jul 13. The 25th anniversary edition of Army Daze, staged in 2012, will be the first to premiere on Jun 13. It’ll be followed by the 2017 staging of Army Daze 2, which begins streaming on Jun 20. Rounding things up is the 2015 performance of Beauty World, which goes online on Jun 27.

The productions will be available to watch on the Michael Chiang Playthings YouTube channel, named after the man behind the productions — veteran playwright and erstwhile 8 DAYS head honcho, Michael Chiang. “It’s been such an eventful year for everybody, and I felt that people could do with a bit of fun and laughter to help lighten up the mood,” he says.

You don’t need to be a theatre-phile to know Army Daze, which follows the hijinks of five NS recruits in Basic Military Training (BMT). The 1987 stage comedy became a box-office hit in 1996, and in 2012, was restaged for the fourth time for its 25th anniversary. Stars Dwayne Tan, Ebi Shankara, Joshua Lim, Shane Mardjuki, Adi Jamaludin and Siti Khalijah.

This sequel catches up with the five protagonists some 30 years after their time in BMT, and the reunion proves to be an unforgettable one. Stars Hossan Leong, Joshua Lim, Saiful Amri, Shane Mardjuki, Ebi Shankara, Chua Enlai, and Oon Shu An.

Altogether now, Beauty World, cha cha cha! Jeanette Aw stars in this 2015 staging of the iconic musical. Set in the 1960s, it follows the story of a smalltown girl in search of her long-lost father, and ends up in the world of cabaret instead. Also stars Janice Koh, Timothy Wan and Joshua Lim.
