A Comprehensive List Of The Hundreds Of F&B Outlets In S’pore That Will Stop Providing Plastic Straws
Any bubble tea shops on the list?
You’ve read the reports about how over 270 F&B outlets in Singapore will cease to provide plastic straws from Jul 1, and you’ve probably got questions. Like, do I have to bring out my own straw? Are any bubble tea shops in the mix? Do I really even need a straw? We get it, the burning questions are aplenty, and the lifestyle changes are imminent (as they should be). To prep you for a strawless future, we’ve compiled a list of F&B outlets in Singapore that have already or will soon adopt a no-straw policy, although some will provide biodegradable options upon request.
There could be more plastics in the ocean than fish by weight in as little as 30 years’ time, according to WWF estimates, which impacts ocean health and biodiversity, and in turn, human health. In Singapore alone, about 700mil kg of plastic waste is discarded every year, and only less than 10 per cent of that is recycled. This isn’t something that generations down the line have to deal with — it directly impacts you and your kids, okay?
So why are people targeting only plastic straws? While plastic straws aren’t the only villains here (single-use plastic cups, takeaway boxes, bottles, etc are just as culpable), they’re a good starting point to raise awareness, not least for the fact that we use just. So. Much. Of. It. It’s estimated that a whopping 2.2mil straws are used in Singapore every single day.
Mind blown? Reaching for your bamboo or metal straws? Pause for a minute and peruse through our handy list of almost 300 places in Singapore that already have or will soon adopt the no-straw policy come Jul 1.
