Update Apr 8, 3.30pm: Daiso has reversed its decision to keep several stores open. All stores will now be closed from Apr 7 to May 4. The latest announcement comes about five hours after it made public this morning (Apr 8) that it had received permission to open selected outlets.

Daiso has just announced that five out of its 22 stores in Singapore have been permitted to stay open, just two days after it announced that it will close all stores Apr 7 to May 4 during Singapore’s circuit breaking measures.

Now, this isn’t an excuse for a shopping spree. Keep calm and exercise some restraint — only head to the store if you actually need something urgently or essential. How to decide if it’s dire enough for you to go to Daiso? If you have to stop and think if it's urgent or essential, it probably isn’t. Buying pretty plates to up your mealtime flatlay game? No, no, and no.

The store has also emphasised that customers should wear a mask, adhere to safe distancing measures and maintain personal hygiene when they’re at the stores (or anywhere, really).
