Get A Glimpse Of ‘Frozen 2’ (Before The Movie Opens!) At This New Disney Exhibition, Which Also Reveals Secrets About Disney Cartoons Over The Years
It opens this weekend.
Frozen 2 only opens in Singapore on Nov 21, but there’s a way to get a sneak peek of the sequel as soon as Oct 26. Original artwork from the hotly-anticipated movie are on display at Disney: Magic of Animation, a new exhibition at the ArtScience Museum that delves into the animation process that has brought Disney magic to life on the big screens for over 90 years.
You’ll get to pore over original sketches, drawings and concept art direct from the Disney studios in Los Angeles — in particular, the Walt Disney Animation Research Library — which holds 65mil pieces of art. While most will never wrangle their way into the tightly-guarded building, you’ll get to pore over 500 of those pieces right here on our shores.
You’ll witness how everything comes to life in movies like Steamboat Willie, the first Disney cartoon with a synchronised soundtrack from 1928, classic faves like The Lion King (1994), and recent blockbusters such as Frozen, Moana and Big Hero 6 (above).
It's over 90 years of Disney magic condensed into five chronological chapters. You’re greeted in the first room by Mickey Mouse (obviously, right?) and the physical recreation of the steamboat from Steamboat Willie in 1928.
Besides coming face-to-face with villains, you’ll find out how Snow White’s final look was decided upon (she could’ve ended up as a redhead!) over here.
Of course, there are interactive elements in the exhibition as well. Forget Instagram filters — these physical props are the original filters and you’re free to create as many zany looks as you want at these mirrors in Snow White’s room.

Animators working on Bambi in 1942 took their research seriously.
This was how Sugar Rush in Wreck-It Ralph began — with a model built out of actual cookies and sweet treats. Yum.
A life-sized projection of Belle and the Beast dancing is the perfect place to play the third wheel — and capture it in a Boomerang.
This booth lets you re-create sound effects for Mulan. It kinda feels like you're playing Guitar Hero, but with old school props.
The highlight of the exhibition the Frozen room, which sees the debut of Frozen 2 artworks on display even before the movie hits the big screens.
This cool installation marks the end of the exhibition.
