This Health App Lets You Check Symptoms From Home, Provides Free Covid-19 Insurance Coverage & More
Hospitalisation allowance starts from $100 a day, if you’re diagnosed with Covid-19.
Keeping tabs on your health has never been more important. But just because we’re all staying at home to curb the spread of Covid-19 doesn’t mean we neglect our health. If you’re suffering from minor symptoms or just want to get a general snapshot of your current health, you can now do it from the comfort of your own phone.
Prudential has launched a digital health app called Pulse by Prudential. Registration is free for Singapore residents, both policyholders and non-policyholders. The app, largely powered by AI, lets you check health symptoms 24/7 and even do an online health assessment to understand your future disease risks. Of course, both these functions are not intended for detection or diagnosis of diseases. For that, there is a telehealth service on the app, available for a flat fee of $15 (excluding medication and delivery), provided by a panel of Singapore-licensed general practitioners.
We don’t know about you, but Googling health symptoms is probably one of the most anxiety-inducing things to do. Not this Symptom Checker function on the Pulse app. The process takes a few minutes and you’re guided through it by an AI-powered chatbot. All questions have multiple-choice answers, so you don’t even have to wrack your brains for the correct words to describe your condition. At the end of it, you get suggestions based on your answers, including if you should see a doctor. After all, results from the Symptom Checker is meant as general information, and should not be taken as a medical diagnosis.
A lot of questions, that’s what. It’s touted as a “lifestyle assessment and disease risk prediction tool”, and takes about 15 minutes to complete. Like the Symptom Checker, this is an MCQ questionnaire. Topics touched on range from current health conditions and family medical history to diet and exercise regimen to mental and sexual health. Yes, it’s that thorough, but you can choose to skip questions if you deem them too personal. At the end of the lengthy questionnaire, you’re shown your ‘Digital Twin’ (which kinda looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, okay, science textbook) which illustrates your risk of various diseases based on your answers. If you need to adjust your lifestyle habits (eat more veg! drink more water!), you’ll be informed here as well.
All users registered with Pulse will receive hospitalisation benefits for Covid-19, though coverage will differ for customers and non-customers. Non-Prudential customers get a $100 daily allowance if they’re hospitalised for Covid-19 (for up to three months of hospitalisation), between the date they sign up for Pulse and May 31. Prudential customers, including SME customers covered under Group Insurance, can enjoy a one-month extension of a $200 daily allowance (for up to three months of hospitalisation) from Jul 1 to 31.
