Ikea has announced that it will close its stores at Alexandra and Tampines from Apr 7 to May 4, in light of the government’s latest circuit-breaker measures to inhibit the spread of Covid-19. Customers can still shop online, but have to choose a delivery date from May 7.

For existing orders, we are awaiting government instructions and currently delivering all orders as scheduled until further notice,” the Ikea website states. “Due to high demand some orders may be delayed.”

Singapore’s newest round of safe distancing measures are its strictest yet — only establishments providing essential services will be allowed to operate from Apr 7 to May 4 (find out what some of these shops are here).

The Swedish furniture giant's stores in Singapore were facing peak customer capacity last weekend (at Alexandra, queues were snaking around the building exterior), after the company reduced customer capacity at both its stores in line with the Ministry of Health’s earlier safe distancing regulations.

Ikea has advised customers who are visiting Ikea Tampines or Ikea Alexandra before Apr 7 to bear in mind its reduced maximum visitor capacity at its stores, and to try limiting their shopping time in store to one hour. Prayer rooms, Smaland and play areas in Ikea restaurants are closed.
