There’s A Glitter-Drenched Artist & IG-Worthy Light Installations At This Festival In Sentosa
Do the bright thing.
If you love Christmas lights, then yule love this sparkly light festival. The neon snowflakes hanging from the trees on the sidewalks aren’t the only shining shimmering splendid things at Sentosa Cove Village this festive season. After a successful run last year at Palawan Beach, Sentosa’s Island Lights festival is back. This time, the festivities are at the breezy, laidback Sentosa Cove Village, with a fab view of the boats at the marina.
Besides seven massive, dazzling light art pieces, there’s also a slew of activities lined up. This weekend (Nov 16-17), there'll be a boat light parade and the Sentosa Cove Holiday Market, where there'll be 15 stalls hawking festive goods and goodies. There’ll also be fire twirlers, roving percussion performances, movie screenings and more, Fridays to Sundays until Dec 31, and every day during Christmas week (Dec 20-29).
Entry to Island Lights is free, but if the taxi fare to Sentosa is too much for you, here’s some good news: get $6 off your Grab ride into Sentosa Island with the code ‘SentosaEvenings’ (limited redemptions). There are also free shuttle buses ferrying passengers between Beach Station and Sentosa Cove Village from Nov 16 to Dec 31, from 6pm-11pm.
Okay, enough talk. Here are some Instagrammable moments you shouldn’t miss at Island Lights.
Organisers know that folks want an Instagrammable moment, but aren’t too hot about the long queues just to get that winning shot. What do they do? Create a 360-degree installation that looks good from any angle, that’s what.
… Between playing and getting that cute Boomerang on this psychedelic see-saw.
Pictures don’t do this justice. What looks like a simple set-up of screens and lights really comes alive when the music comes on and the visitor — yes, you — participate in shadow play amid the flashing lights. The final result is cool, trippy and breathtaking all at the same time.
Who would’ve thought that watching a performance artist swathe her entire body in copious amounts of glitter would be so mesmerising and puzzling at the same time? How does she wash it all off? Slink over for the ‘Pink’ performance (only on Nov 16, 30 and Dec 7, 21 and 28 at select timings) and ask her yourself.
Island Lights runs from Nov 16 to Dec 31, 6.30pm-10.30pm daily, at Sentosa Cove Village. ONE ̊15 Christmas Boat Light Parade and Sentosa Cove Holiday Market is on Nov 16-17. More info at www.sentosa.sg/islandlights.
