Quiz of the week

How well do you know the news? Test your knowledge.

Christmas is coming which means it’s that time of the year the malls try to outdo and out-sparkle one another with their festive decorations. And this year, one of them is letting you — yes, you, the Instagramming customer — control what their centerpiece Christmas tree looks like.

1 of 3 Tree's a crowd

For anyone who has an opinion about Christmas decorations on Orchard Road, here’s some good news for you. You get to decide what this Christmas tree, perched in front of Ion Orchard, looks like. It’s all happening at Bvlgari’s sparkling festive pop-up at the mall’s entrance. Behold the Fireworks Tree, which towers at 18.5m and comprises 100 mini ‘fireworks’ made up of a 15km-long strip of lights.

  • 2 of 3 Sssanta Claus is coming to town

Over on the other end of the entrance is the luxury brand’s iconic Serpenti Necklace, supersized into a mega light structure that weighs 14 tonnes.

The best part? Anyone can decide on the lighting effects on these interactive installations by downloading the BVL-Fireworks and the BVL-Serpenti apps respectively, choose their desired lighting effects, and see it light up with your colour of choice for the next 20 seconds. What happens if there’s more than one person is attempting to light up either installation? There’s a queue system on the apps that can accommodate up to 100 people. Both apps are available for free download on both the App Store and Google Play. Bvlgari’s Dream Maker Holiday Installations will be on display at Ion Orchard from Nov 8 to Jan 1, 2020, 10am-11pm daily.

3 of 3 The making of the light structures

If you need your fix of local flavour this festive season, head up into the mall. There’ll be a new digital projection lightshow featuring Ang Ku Kueh Girl and friends at Ion Sky at Level 56. We’re told that these foodie pals will go on an adventure to protect their home that comprises an Ice Kachang Mountain, Pink Bandung River and Steamboat Hot Springs. It’s not your typical Christmas fare, but we’re still intrigued by the makan madness anyway. Entry is free with a minimum spend of $20 in a single receipt at Ion Orchard. Daily shows at 2pm, 4pm and 7pm. Launch date for Adventures in Food Wonderland by Ang Ku Kueh Girl and Friends to be confirmed.
