Quiz of the week

How well do you know the news? Test your knowledge.

It’s been a busy week for Marvel Studios. First, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings had its world premiere (we saw it and we have only this to say: Come for Simu Liu, stay for Tony Leung!). Then, Anthony Mackie officially boarded Captain America 4. And now, there’s a new trailer for Eternals, the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 entry about a benevolent race of immortal aliens with superpowers, who have secretly lived on Earth for several thousands of years.

The second and final trailer answers a few questions raised by the teaser which came out in May. For starters, when is the movie — helmed by Nomadland’s Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao — set? It’s set years after The Blip after Thanos decimated half the universe’s population with the Infinity Gauntlet and the post-Blip when Iron Man (or was it Hulk) snapped everyone back. But in doing so, it created an end-of-the-world cataclysm called the Emergence.

Another pressing question answered: If the Eternals are so powerful, why didn’t they step in to stop Thanos? Turns out they “were instructed not to interfere in any human conflicts unless Deviants were involved,” says one Eternal named Sersi, played by Gemma Chan.

The what? They are these big scary monsters. And on whose instructions? That will be the Celestials, powerful extraterrestrial cosmic beings who first appeared in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy.

There’s a lot of things to process but whatever it is, the Eternals have seven days to get their act together to stop the Emergence. The trailer then shows us plenty of stunning, holy-cow imageries, on Earth and in space. Despite the impending doom, there’s still room to squeeze in a joke about Ikea.

Watch the trailer:Opening in Singapore cinemas on Nov 4, Eternals features a star-studded ensemble, including Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Salma Hayek as Ajajk, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
