Trailer Watch: Tom Holland And Benedict Cumberbatch Battle Multiverse Villains In Spider-Man: No Way Home
Spidey fans everywhere are wetting their pants.
Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have finally launched the teaser trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The almost three-minute trailer (pretty long for a teaser), which arrived a day after a leak on Sunday (Aug 22) night (seriously, was the leak part of the promotional campaign?), sees Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) turning to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help after his identity was exposed in the final moments of Far From Home.
To undo the damage, the Sorcerer Supreme conjures up a spell, but things don’t go according to plan. “We tampered with the stability of space-time,” says Strange. “The multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little.” Yikes.
This little misstep results in the Web-slinger facing villains from previous Spider-Man cinematic franchises, includes Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, and Jamie Foxx’s Electro.
It follows that if those guys are here, so should the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield iterations of Spider-Man. But neither actor are officially involved in the cross-universe epic. (Maybe the producers are using their CG doubles? It will really suck if they go down that road.)
Remember this is just the teaser trailer: they are probably saving more OMG moments in the official trailer closer to the release. We’re also fine if they don’t unveil anymore footage so that we can find out the surprises ourselves when the movie opens in Singapore on Dec 16.
Again directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: No Way Home also stars Zendaya (back as MJ), Jacob Batalon (as Ned), Marisa Tomei (as Aunt May), Benedict Wong (as Wong), and Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan).
