Show Luo, Who Is Reportedly Banned In China, Tells His Haters He Is Not Doing Charity To "Whitewash" His Tarnished Reputation
The star, whose cheating scandal made headlines last year, certainly isn’t afraid to laugh at himself.
Taiwanese star Show Luo’s once-successful career just hasn’t been the same ever since his ex-girlfriend, Chinese influencer Grace Chow, exposed him for being a cheating womaniser.
Recently, a list of 25 celebrities who have reportedly been banned in China was circulated online, and the 42-year-old was included among the names for being a “dishonest artiste”.
While the authenticity of this blacklist has not been verified, Show really did lose a number of jobs — not to mention a hefty salary — after his scandal, including stints on Chinese variety shows Go Fighting and Produce Camp 2020.
Since then, he’s slowly been getting back into the public eye with his own YouTube channel.
On Saturday (Oct 9), Show uploaded a new clip of himself participating in various charity activities in Hualien, which included making mooncakes and doing arts and crafts with children.
And, judging from his disclaimer and the title of his vlog (“No matter what people say, I will still do what I must! If I don’t, I’ll get scolded, and if I do, I’m putting on a show?”), he is all too aware of some of the reactions he might get from the notoriously cynical public.
At the beginning of the video, Show shared that as soon as the episode comes out, he is completely expecting netizens to accuse him of only doing good to “whitewash” his tarnished reputation or ‘cos he has “nothing to do”.
Well, he has made it clear in advance that such remarks won’t bother him.
“Don’t worry, [my reputation] can’t be whitewashed anymore!” he declared with a self-deprecating laugh.
However, Show did admit that he could visit the kids as he does have a little more free time on his hands. He explained that he has always been quietly involved in charity but finds it harder to show up in person when work gets too busy.
“Society is like this: If you don’t say anything, people will accuse you of doing nothing, but if you do talk about it, they’ll say you’re just doing it for show,” he mused. “But no matter what the outside world says about me, I will continue to do it.”
While we’re sure Show was right about some haters’ attitudes towards him, there were also many fans who expressed their support.
Positive comments include: “I’m proud of you for helping people”, “He knows how to laugh at himself while continuing to do the right thing, I will always support Show”, and “Whether you are sincere or not, at least you are doing it. Those who dislike you will dislike you no matter what you do, so just be yourself.”Photos: Show TV/YouTube, Show Luo/Instagram
