Zoe Tay & Irene Ang Celebrate 30 Years Of Friendship; Reminisce About Their 1999 New York Trip & Zouk Party Days
They go way, way back.
Now, isn’t this sweet? Irene Ang, 52, took to her Instagram on Oct 12 to share a throwback snap of her and Zoe Tay, 53, from 1999.
According to Irene, who’s the head honcho of artiste management agency Fly Entertainment and her own F&B empire, Zoe was in New York to attend acting school.
As if she needed it, wrote Irene.
Describing Ah Jie as someone who was always early and a very diligent student”, Irene went on to write: Today, she is still always early [and] still the most hardworking girl around!”
Irene and Zoe go way, way back.
Here's a little bit of history: Irene was Zoe's stunt double in the 1990 Ch 8 drama Navy and they became friends after that.
Also, Irene was the one who introduced Zoe to her husband Philip Chionh and she was also the emcee for Ah Jie's wedding in 2001.
Back back to Irene's post where she reminisced about their time in New York. While Zoe was there for acting school, Irene was busy hustling, lugging around a bag filled with VHS [tapes] of FLY artistes showreels, meeting networks and casting directors”, since she’d just started Fly Entertainment then.
Of course, it wasn’t all work and no play for them too. As Irene noted in her caption, the bags that the duo were carrying were Zoe’s shopping loot. P/S: Are those Salvatore Ferragamo shoeboxes we see?
My dear friend, today we celebrate 30 [years] of friendship. Thank you for always nursing my hangover and for sending me home after Zouk! Now you are not just a successful TV legend, influencer but also a very doting wife [and] mother! (sic),” added Irene.
Zoe, who’d shared Irene’s post on her IG Story, also took the opportunity to reminisce about their New York adventure.
“[We] met by chance in New York. And ended up all staying together in the same apartment, taking the train, going to Central Park, and strolling around New York,” wrote Zoe.
Ah Jie also left a comment on Irene’s post, writing: My dear friend, thanks for sharing this beautiful memory with me, love [you] too”, she wrote, adding Water ski, Makan, Zouk , which we assume were their favourite activities together.
Three cheers for friendship!
