Affordable Art Fair S’pore 2012! An update!
Time to start saving up. Affordable Art Fair is back. And it’s bigger and better.
Actually, they really don’t need to proclaim the “bigger and better” bit to convince us it’s worth going to. We’re already quite smitten by this sweet li’l (relatively speaking) art fair just the way it is. And if there’s anyone who’s still unconvinced about just how good its presence has been for the art market scene here, 71% of last year’s 13,500 visitors were apparently first-time buyers.
But yes, this is Singapore, so I guess it’s SOP to say they’re doing more. And so they’ve had some minor tweaks based on audience feedback.
So now, it’s added an extra day—it’ll be from Nov 15 to 18. It’s also added an extra room and will occupy two levels at the F1 Pit Building in Marina South.
The number of galleries have been slightly increased to 85. That’s a whopping seven more! Heh. (Which just means more floor space for the galleries to showcase more of their stuff.)
Again, the usual spiel—price range is from S$100 to S$10,000, with 75% of the works under S$7,500.
The details are trickling in but you’ll have works by Yayoi Kusama there. Among featured Singapore artists are Justin Lee (who’s back) and Ang Sookoon. The Arty-licious Evening event is back. It was cool of the organisers to include performance artists last year so cross fingers they’ll be doing something interesting yet again.
Other new stuff: a bespoke bar and lounge space that’s available for hire for groups (apparently they had requests for tailor-made AAF experiences last year) and F&B will be by Michel Lu’s Argentum Group.
You’ll have the usual activities for kids, printmaking demos and art talks, while the LASALLE/NAFA student section has now been turned into a more inclusive Young Talent programme. Same idea (up-and-coming local talents under 25 years old) but expanded beyond the two schools.
Stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, their website’s here.
