Bangkok Film Fest Day #1: Celebrities! Southeast Asian Films!
First Pusan, now Tokyo. Theatre director Glen Goei's The Blue Mansion's going places ey? Smooth segue there right? Theatre. Film…. Which is why, seeing as TODAY’s Flick Chick is still deciding what to call her soon-to-be-up-and-running spankin’ new film blog, your Resident Art-Throb is taking a break from the local art scene to talk about film. And I’m in Bangkok right now. Sawadee-krup! The kind organisers of the Bangkok International Film Festival, which kicked off yesterday, had kindly invited yours truly to drop by and have a look. And well, would you say no to an entire week of just watching movies? I’ll get to talking about the serious stuff later on, but for now, it's glitz and glamour, baby! While chaos reigned supreme during the pre-festival registration process, one thing you can’t fault the Thais is the fact that they know how to doll up their film festival. If this year’s Singapore International Film Festival (insert sentimental sigh here) brought in Mr Easy Rider Peter Fonda, this year, the Thais have got… Jim Belushi!
