Blinding Bling! Unbridled Lust! Virgins!

Leslie Tan’s the man!

By the way, The Composer also marks the first time Lee Hwa’s sponsoring an art event. Congratulations! The scene needs more generous folks like you. They’re so involved in the production that they’ve also handpicked jewellery pieces inspired by the characters from the play. Which, I guess, means we’ll see some product placements onstage. (UPDATE: Ken just dropped a note saying there won't be product placements in the play -- click on the "comments" whatchamacallit! Thanks for the clarification!) And speaking of product placements, I’ve been thinking about The Hossan Leong Show. I read the “other newspaper’s” review and I guess I wasn’t the only one who was overwhelmed by the sponsors on that show. But now, I’m not so sure. I’m thinking, yes, it could be seen as a travesty. But at the same time, it was so in-your-face it’s almost… experimental. It’s parodying the medium of TV – which bombards you with TV ads anyway – so why not bombard you with its own product placements? Now whether it’s an experiment that worked or failed is up to the viewer, I guess.   (The Composer runs from Dec 16 to 20 at the Esplanade Theatre Studio. Tickets at $30 and $35 from Sistic. They go on sale on Oct 16.)
