Have you got your tickets for Nederlands Dans Theater 2’s shows next week? Well that’s just for starters, because there’s a lot more to come from da:ns Festival when it returns for this year’s edition in October.

Let’s start with the segment I like best — the Shift shows.

There’s Ming Poon and Scarlet Yu’s The Infinitesimal Distance Between Two Bodies (Oct 11 and 12). It’s the long version — a shorter version of this enjoyable “backstage” look at a performance was performed at the Esplanade’s 10th anniversary programme last year.

Cambodia’s Amrita Performing Arts is back with Khmeropedies III: Source / Primate (Oct 15 and 16). Done with French-Cambodian choreographer Emmanuel Phuon, the piece has some monkey thing going on, referencing the monkey role in Cambodian classical dance.

Hiroaki Umeda’s Temporal Pattern & Holistic Strata (Oct 18 and 19) looks like my kind of thing. The artist apparently “mixes butoh, hip-hop and digital technology”. The first piece includes dancers from Taiwan, India and Cambodia while the second one sees Umeda dancing in “an explosive canvas of light particles, digital images, video and sonic beats.” Woot.

Fanaticism is at the heart of It’s Going To Get Worse And Worse And Worse, My Friend (Oct 20) by Lisbeth Gruwez of Belgium. The solo piece is inspired by Jimmy Swaggart, the ultraconservative televangelist.

And then you’ve got the biggies.

Brazil’s Grupo Corpo is back with the doube-bill Sem Mim and Onqoto (Oct 11 and 12). Love this group — primarily because I got introduced to the awesome music of musician Tom Ze, with whom they’ve collaborated. Soundtrack coolness is apparently still on — the latter features the sounds of Caetano Veloso and Jose Miguel Wisnik.

Elsewhere, you’ve got Fabulous Beast’s Rian (Oct 18 and 19); the always-popular flamenco show, featuring Antonio Canales, Carlos Rodriguez, Karime Amaya, Jesus Carmona (Oct 18 and 19); and, of course, the NAFA and LASALLE showcases on Oct 11/12 and Oct 18/19, respectively.

da:ns Festival runs from Oct 11 to 20. Tickets go on sale tomorrow. For more details, visit www.dansfestival.com.
