Okay, it’s confirmed. Singapore loves the Affordable Art Fair. Organisers announced an increase of 15% and 25% in visitors and sales respectively. Some 16,000 people dropped by at the recently concluded four-day fair and it chalked up S$4 million in sales. Meanwhile, in keeping with its statistical transparency, the National Arts Council released its 2011 National Popular Survey On The Arts in full. The council’s seventh such survey took place between Oct and Dec 2011, sampling some 2,000 Singaporeans and PRs. The survey revealed that 48% of respondents attended at least one arts or culture activity in the past year, with youth and working adults being the most active, and theatre the most popular. In terms of active participation, music came out tops in terms of preference. Broken down into demographic, 61% of youth and PMEBs surveyed, respectively, have attended at least one arts or culture event. The former prefer music and dance, while the latter go for music performances and visual arts. On the other end of the scale, retirees and seniors are the least into arts. It’s a pretty hefty report.
