The game is part of the council’s Public Art Showcase. They’re releasing a brochure that’s soon going to be available for download here. Listed down are 52 artworks from all around Singapore, a bit of info and where to find them. But that’s only a quarter of the estimated number of public artworks that’s scattered around the island (or in storage) and the NAC peeps say they’ll be showcasing more if this proves to be well received. The council’s aim is to (re)introduce these works of art that have been overlooked or ignored by the public. Whether that’s because the art works are just damn ugly or not is still up for debate. And I’m keeping my mouth shut. But anyway, it’s all about defamiliarisation. What you may think is just another sculpture can turn out to be… just another Sculpture! Mind you, that’s with a capital “S”. So here’s our bit to helping defamiliarise Singapore’s public art works. Tada! ...
