Poster Children! Dominant Discourse(s)!
And the National Day exhibitions continue. Sort of. It’s easy to look at the ongoing Campaign City: Life In Posters at Evil Empire and Non-Dominant Discourse at Post Museum as postscripts to last month’s crop of shows that dealt with issues of nationhood and national identity. At the risk of repeating myself, as much as there’s ambition in both shows, they also seem to fall into that same sort of trap that those previous ones found themselves in in creating counter-narratives. That is, just how much can you push within the boundaries you refuse to dismantle?
