Robert Yeo wins SEA Write Award!
Robert Yeo is the latest South-east Asian Write Award recipient from Singapore.
The playwright, poet and librettist (he’s working on another opera right now) bagged the award for literary excellence in the ASEAN region. It’s given to writers from the different countries every year and previous recipients from Singapore include Philip Jeyaretnam (2003); Soon Ai Ling (2004); P. Krishnan (2005); Isa Kamari (2006); Rex Shelley (2007); Stella Kon (2008); Chia Hwee Pheng (2009) and Johar Bin Buang (2010).
Known for his Singapore Trilogy of plays, Yeo also quite recently released his memoir Routes (apparently only the first instalment) and his first novel, The Adventures of Holden Heng (which was quite a hoot), was reprinted.
The awards ceremony takes place in Bangkok this week and includes not just moolah and a plaque but a week-long all-expenses paid vacay. Woot.
