State of the Arts! December 2011! Week 3!
STATE OF THE ARTS (Dec 12 to 18)
“The show must go on” was the rallying cry of Dream Academy Productions as it forged ahead with its year-end production Crazy Christmas 2011 amidst the announcement that Emma Yong had pulled out due to a cancer relapse – the second unfortunate incident to hit the show after the demise of RJ Rosales, who was also on the bill. The local independent movie scene suffered a blow when Sinema Old School officially closed over the weekend, while Teater Ekamatra took on politics and homosexuality with its play Mata Hati.
Elsewhere, specific places in Singapore were put under the spotlight. The Bras Basah/Bugis Heritage Gallery was unveiled at the National Library to highlight the district’s history; the Regenerating Communities@Empress Place series kicked off with performances to highlight the importance of the area; and The Substation launched its inaugural 12-hour concert Tribal Gathering Of Jaw Benders with a little help from its neighbours to spice up life in Armenian Street.
