FEB 20 to 26 The jam-packed calendar carried on from the previous weekend. Wrapping up were the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival (drawing 25,000 folks to ticketed and non-ticketed shows/exhibitions and slightly upping total house attendance to the former to 73% from last year’s 71%) as well as the Open House art walkabout in Tiong Bahru (equally successful with its sold out tours). The year-long Kuo Pao Kun Festival kicked off with its first show, the all-Mandarin immersive experience 11, and W!ld Rice restaged its highly popular Cooling Off Day by Alfian Sa’at. Incidentally, the print version of the latter was one of two play manuscripts published last week. The other was of Fringe Fest show Tongues by Sean Tobin and Jason Wee. Elsewhere, the National Art Education Award, given in recognition of efforts to boost students’ learning through the arts, was given to its biggest crop so far — 83 schools. It was also revealed that six cast members of Resorts World Sentosa’s resident show, Voyage de la Vie, had left, including singer-songwriter and lead actor Jonathan Leong.
