JAN 23 to 29 It’s been a while since Art Stage Singapore wrapped up, but criticism has refused to die down over its controversial second edition. Last week’s reports of participating galleries venting frustration about how it was managed came on the heels of a well-publicised spat between the fair’s VIP relations boss Maria Elena Rudolf and prominent gallerist Valentine Willie over a torn guestbook. Elsewhere, you had festivals in the news: Chinese performing arts fest Huayi kicked off as Fetterfield performance art festival wrapped up, and the Singapore Writers Fest launched its school programme allowing students to meet with international and local authors. An exhibition on Portuguese influence in the region opened at the Eurasian Community House, Ho Tzu Nyen’s Venice Biennale work The Cloud Of Unknowing was screened at Sundance Film Festival, and the Shanghai Expo moving scroll exhibition, A Moving Masterpiece, over at Singapore Expo has been getting fewer audiences than expected. Oh, and punks rocked The Substation over the weekend, too.
