July 30 to Aug 5 It was a packed week that included Curating Lab for budding curators; Hao Summit for arts managers; a conference on Indian classical dance by Chowk; the annual Future Of Imagination performance art festival; and the opening of the Icon De Martell photography exhibition. The young winners of the Singapore Young Photographer Award and Goh Soon Tioe Centenary Award in music were also announced. Respected poet Edwin Thumboo’s “best of” anthology was released. The Singapore International Film Fest was cancelled this year due to a lack of funds. But the biggest news was the restructuring of government ministries that will soon see the arts being shifted from the Ministry Of Information, Communications And The Arts to the new Ministry Of Culture, Community And Youth. The thrust towards more community engagement in the arts was underscored with the launch of the Living Arts, Loving Culture logo and a ramped-up programme involving various agencies.
